Biography

British born saxophonist Jon Rebbeck is a creative contemporary musician who has established a reputation for innovation and versatility performing across multiple genres in a career spanning 30 years. Jon has shared the international stage with a diverse range of musicians in jazz, pop and contemporary classical arenas. Jon is graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and the Guildhall School of Music, London. His passion for music was deeply nurtured in his childhood home in Swindon, UK, where music, dance and theatre were paramount. Surrounded by a family of professional musicians and artists, he was profoundly moved by the endless possibilities of both jazz and classical music. Throughout his career Jon has appeared on the international stage with a diverse range of musicians including Bob Mintzer, Eric Marienthal, Michael Nyman, John Harle, Phil Wilson, Jim Snidero, Andy Scott, Motown’s Bobby Taylor and the legendary Louis ‘Moondog’ Hardin. He has played and recorded with renowned orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic and the Halle as well as the revolutionary, multi-sax ensemble, the London Saxophonic. Jon was a founding member of the internationally-acclaimed Apollo Saxophone Quartet, the ensemble that significantly shaped his musical philosophy. Renowned for its excellence and versatility across contemporary classical and jazz genres, the group has been at the forefront of the British contemporary music scene for over 30 years. He also established the Opus Music School in Manchester, UK and has played an integral part of many progressive projects, including Yehudi Menuhin’s “Live Music Now,” a program that took live music to underserved environments such as special needs schools and hospitals for the terminally ill. Based in Hong Kong Jon creates music with like-minded musicians from a variety of cultures and backgrounds and as a producer supports live music projects that promote artists in the Hong Kong community and beyond.
