The SHIVA 3 ‘The Destroyer’ soprano mouthpiece has power, edge and projection AND a fullness of sound not found in any other small chamber soprano mouthpiece!

Keyan Williams

The SHIVA 3 has been updated with Theo’s unique baffle design, and combines both a step and roll-over baffle.  It also has a small chamber akin to the vintage Selmer Soloist mouthpieces.  So if you like the Selmer, Otto Link, Meyer, etc soprano mouthpiece you will probably love this one. If you’ve been waiting for a small chamber Theo Wanne soprano mouthpiece, this is it!

The SHIVA power and body making it suitable for all music, from soft jazz to Rock n’ Roll.    Yet there is nothing ‘thin’ or ‘brittle’ about the sound, so it is also flexible for any type of music too.  Currently used by both Gerald Albright, Marion Meadows, Keyan Williams, and many others.  Special thanks to the great Keyan Williams for his help in designing this mouthpiece.

“The SHIVA soprano is unreal! Absolutely killin’. Its full of sound, with great response.  I love the feel of it!  It’s a winner!” – Gerald Albright (3 Grammy Nominations)

I’ve already played jazz and classical with it and it sounds amazing. This soprano mouthpiece is by far your best work. Yeaaaa we did it!” – Keyan Williams

“Man, the Shiva soprano is a $%^&*!!!  Kudos to Theo on this creation! She screams all the way up into the altissimo register!  Wonderful!!!” – Mark Fox (Best of 2016 album award)

“Jazz music is a conversation. It’s Call and response as well as pure expression in true improvised New Orleans music. The music is the wave, you’re the surfer and the horn is the surfboard. We are all trying to catch that perfect wave every night.  I don’t want to think about my gear and I don’t want it to interfere with the process. I want it to perform like a locked in bass player where you just know is going to be in the pocket and it leaves me free to do my thing. The Shiva 9 on my soprano does just that.” – William Bua

“I love Theo’s mouthpieces! I find Theo’s mouthpieces to have a huge warm sound (even the Shiva which can be loud and bright) with lots of presence and enough edge to sound however you want – modern, classic, dark, bright, but always full and with warmth and core. What you get out of them just depends on your reed selection and strength and how much you lay into them when you’re playing. I’ve owned and played a lot of mouthpieces over the years, but I’ve never found anything that is as fun to play and that gives me all of the things I want in my sound with such consistency and ease. I have my eye on a few other Theo Wanne pieces that I hope to try in the near future… Kudos for great products!” – Reggie Murray

The story of this mouthpiece is rather fun!

For many years, one of our great endorsers, Keyan Williams, drove me crazy, as he loved all our mouthpieces….EXCEPT our soprano mouthpieces.   He just couldn’t get into the large chamber design on soprano and that, for him, his custom made small chamber soprano mouthpiece always remained his favorite soprano mouthpiece.  He would tease me about this every-time I saw him.

I was determined to make a mouthpiece he loved, both because I wanted to have a small chamber soprano mouthpiece in my line-up and to simply stop Keyan’s incessant teasing.  After all, I saw him every year at the NAMM show in LA, and the topic would ‘somehow’ always arise.  ha ha ha.   Being the great guy he is, Keyan eventually agreed to lend me his favorite mouthpiece to study.   Indeed it was a great mouthpiece, having the vintage Selmer vibe, but a bit also with a bit more projection.    And so started a year long study into small chamber soprano mouthpiece design.  I sent mouthpieces to Keyan to try, and then get his feedback.  When I finally came up with a unique design Keyan preferred to his previously favorite soprano mouthpiece, the SHIVA 2 soprano mouthpiece was born.

I am always looking to improve designs, no matter how good they are.  And after coming out with the GAIA 3 tenor mouthpiece, I had learned a lot of new design concepts.    So I decided to further improve the SHIVA 2 and make the SHIVA 3 soprano mouthpiece.   I have grown to trust Keyan’s feedback, after all, for years he refused to play on my soprano mouthpieces, so I was happy when Keyan agreed to further test the new SHIVA 3 soprano mouthpiece.   🙂

After receiving the SHIVA 3, below are the comments he gave me…and I now feel comfortable releasing it for all of you to try too!

“OMG! It’s amazing! You’re a GENIUS! This is it for me, the SHIVA 3 soprano is the mouthpiece I was always asking you to make. I know we have been working hard to find the mouthpiece to move me and you did it. The sound is warm and beautiful but you can push it to get this amazing edgy tone. The diversity and dynamic range is something that I’ve never experienced before in a Soprano mouthpiece. The feel it is extremely natural and it plays effortlessly. I’ve already played jazz and classical with it and it sounds amazing. This soprano mouthpiece is by far your best work. Yeaaaa we did it!” – Keyan Williams

A personal note from Keyan:

“My grandmother used to say… “you don’t ask, you don’t get”.  So, when I asked Theo to make a soprano piece that works for players like me.  He asked me why the soprano piece doesn’t work for me and oh boy…  I had a great deal to share.  That started the creation of the Shiva 2 and Shiva 3 Soprano mouthpieces.  I know as much about mouthpieces as I know about art.  I just know what I like and what works.

A person that can take your thoughts and feedback and make that into a piece of art is what I consider to be pure genius.  That’s exactly what Theo did, and the Shiva 3 was born.  Not everyone can make a good soprano mouthpiece.  To make a soprano mouthpiece that speak to you the first time you try it was amazing.  All I can say is thank you Theo for taking on the challenge.  I am both honored and humbled to have worked with you.” – Keyan Williams

“Ordered a Shiva 3 for my Soprano… Was hesitant because I live in Australia and what if I don’t like it once I got it… Well, it’s amazing, way better then I expected, extremely fast response and an amazing tone. Thank you!” – Harrison Whelan
